Cyclonic Storm Condition

According to the observations at (05:30) hrs M.S.T today, the Cyclonic Storm “REMAL” over North Bay and adjoining Eastcentral Bay of Bengal has moved nearly Northwards and now lies over North Bay of Bengal. It is centered at about (285) Nautical miles West-Northwest of Thandwe, (200) Nautical miles West-Southwest of Sittwe (Myanmar), (160) Nautical miles South-Southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh), (160) Nautical miles South-Southeast of Sagar Island and (180) Nautical miles South-Southeast of Canning (West Bangal, India).

It has not directed towards Myanmar Coasts, the present stage of the Cyclonic Storm “REMAL” is coded yellow stage.

Position of Cyclonic Storm, central pressure and wind

The Cyclonic Storm is located at Latitude (19.4) degree North and Longitude (89.4) degree East, central pressure of Cyclonic Storm is (985) hPa and maximum wind speed near the center is (50) miles per hour at (05:30) hrs MST today.

During next (36) hrs forecast

The Cyclonic Storm is likely to continue to move Northwards and further intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm over North Bay of Bengal during next (6)hrs. It may cross between Khepupara (Bangladesh) and adjoining West Bengal coasts, Sagar Island (India), close to Mongla(Bangladesh) tonight.

General caution

Under the influence of Cyclonic Storm, rain or thundershowers will be fairly widespread to widespread in Naypyitaw, Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyarwady, Taninthayi Regions and Kachin, Chin, Rakhine, Kayin, Mon States with likelihood of regionally and isolated heavyfalls in some Regions and States along with strong winds from today morning to 27-5-2024. Occasional squalls with rough seas will be experienced in Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts. Surface wind speed in squall may reach 40 mph and wave height will be about 9-12 feet. Frequent squalls with rough to very rough seas will be experienced in Deltaic, off and along Rakhine Coasts. Surface wind speed in squall may reach 45-55 mph and wave height will be about 13-16 feet.

Under the influence of Cyclonic Storm, people should be awared heavy rain with strong wind, flash flood and landslide in the hilly areas and near small rivers and also domestic flight, trawlers, vessels and ships off and along Myanmar Coasts.
