17-12-2024: According to the observations at (17:30) hrs M.S.T today, the Well Marked Low Pressure Area over Southwest Bay of Bengal still persists. It is likely to move Northwestwards and reach to North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh Coasts, India during next 24 hours. Thereafter, it is likely to move nearly Northwards and move along Andhra Pradesh Coast during 48 hours. Weather is generally fair over the North Andaman Sea and partly cloudy to cloudy over the South Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal.

Depression

          According to the observations at (05:30)hrs M.S.T today, the depression over Southeast Bay of Bengal has moved North-northwest wards and is centered at about (650)miles South-Southeast of Vishakhapatnam (India), (675)miles South-Southeast of Gopalpur (India), (135)miles West of Car Nicobar (India) and (325)miles South-Southwest of Coco Island (Myanmar). It is forecast to move Northwest wards.

It is not moving towards Myanmar coasts, the present stage of the depression is coded yellow stage.

 Position of depression, Center pressure and wind

          Depression is located at Latitude (9.5) degree North and Longitude (90.5) degree East, Centre pressure of depression is (1002) hPa and maximum wind speed near the center is about (30) miles per hour at (05:30) hrs MST today.

Next (48)hrs Forecast

          It is forecast to further intensify into a cyclonic storm during next (48)hrs.

General caution

          Squalls with moderate to rough sea are likely at times Deltaic, Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon – Taninthayi Coasts. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach (35) m.p.h.

Trawlers, vessels and ships Deltaic, Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon – Taninthayi Coasts are advised to avert in condition of depression.
