Depression

According to the observations at (17:30) hrs M.S.T today, the Depression over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal continues has moved East-Northeastwards. It is centered at about 510 Nautical miles West of Coco Island (Myanmar), 230 Nautical miles South-Southeast of Visakhapatnam (India). The centre pressure of Depression is (1003) hPa and maximum wind speed near the center is (30-35) miles per hour.

It does not intend to move towards Myanmar coasts at the present stage and therefore the Depression is coded as yellow stage.

Forecast

It is likely to move slowly East-Northeastwards during next 6 hours and weaken gradually over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal.

Due to the Depression, rain or thundershowers are likely to be fairly widespread in Chin State, scattered in Mandalay, Magway, Sagaing Regions and Kachin, Rakhine, Shan States isolated in Naypyidaw, Yangon, Bago, Ayeyarwady Regions and Kayah State with likelihood of isolated heavyfalls tonight upto 23-12-2024.

Squalls with moderate to rough seas are likely at times off and along Rakhine Coast. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach (30-35) m.p.h and wave height will be about (7-9) feet off and along Rakhine Coast.

Advisory

 People should be awared the natural disasters such as the heavy rainfall with strong wind, thunder, Lightning strike, lightning, hails, flash flood and landslide in the hilly areas and near small rivers and inland water transport and domestic flight.
