Severe Cyclonic Storm “HAMOON” Condition

According to the observations at (21:30) hrs M.S.T today, the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm “HAMOON” over the Northeast Bay and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal has moved Northeastwards and weakened into a Severe Cyclonic Storm “HAMOON” over the Northeast Bay of Bengal. It is centered at about (125) Nautical miles West-Northwest of Sittwe, (85) Nautical miles West of Maungdaw, (120) Nautical miles West-Southwest of Paletwa (Myanmar), (190) Nautical miles East-Southeast of Digha (India), (75) Nautical miles South-Southeast of Khepupara and (105) Nautical miles South-Southwest of Chittagong (Bangladesh).

The present stage of the Severe Cyclonic Storm “HAMOON” is coded yellow stage. Although it is not moving towards Myanmar coasts, Chin and Nothern Rakhine States, Myanmar will be affected due to the banding features of the Severe Cyclonic Storm “HAMOON”.

Severe Cyclonic storm “HAMOON” is located at Latitude (20.9) degree North and Longitude (90.8) degree East, centre pressure of Severe Cyclonic storm “HAMOON” is (988) hPa and maximum wind speed near the center is (60-70) miles per hour at (21:30) hrs MST today.

During next (24) hrs forecast

Severe Cyclonic storm “HAMOON” is likely to move Northeastwards and weaken into a Cyclonic storm “HAMOON” after that it is likely to cross Bangladesh coast close to the South of Chittagong as a Cyclonic storm “HAMOON” during next (12)hrs. Therafter, it is likely forecast continuous to move Northeastwards as a Land Depression.

 General caution

Due to the Severe Cyclonic storm “HAMOON”, rain or thundershowers will be widespread in Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway Regions and Kachin, (Northern and Southern)Shan, Chin, Rakhine States, scattered to fairly widespread in Naypyitaw, Eastern Shan State with regionally and isolated heavyfalls in Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway Regions and Kachin, Chin, Rakhine States. Occasionally squalls with rough seas will be experienced off and along Rakhine Coast. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach (45-50) m.p.h. Wave height will be about (10-13) feet in off and along Rakhine Coast from commencing tonight to (26.10.2023).

Under the influence of the Severe Cyclonic storm “HAMOON”, people should be awared and avoided of strong wind, heavy rain, flash flood and landslide in the hilly areas and near small rivers and also domestic flight, trawlers, vessels and ships off and along Rakhine Coasts.
