SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS RECORDED AT 09:30 hrs M.S.T: During the past (24) hours, rain has been widespread in Eastern Shan State, fairly widespread in Southern Shan State, scattered in Taninthayi Region, Kachin and Northern Shan States, isolated in Upper Sagaing, Bago and Yangon Regions, Kayah, Kayin and Mon States with isolated heavy falls in Taninthayi Region and weather has been partly cloudy in the remaining Regions and States. Night temperatures were about January average temperatures in Upper Sagaing and Taninthayi Regions, Chin State, (5°C) to (6°C) above January average temperatures in Mandalay, Bago and Yangon Regions, Shan (North and South), Kayah, Kayin and Mon States and (3°C) to (4°C) above January average temperatures in the remaining Regions and States. The significant night temperature was (1°C) in Hakha. The noteworthy amounts of rainfall recorded were Kawthong (5.12) inches, Kengtung and Minesat (0.67) inch each.
BAY INFERENCE: According to the observations at (13:30)hrs M.S.T today, the low pressure area over South Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal still persists. It is forecast to further intensify into a depression during next (24)hrs. Weather is generally fair over the North Bay and West Central Bay and partly cloudy to cloudy over the Andaman Sea and elsewhere Bay of Bengal.
FORECAST VALID UNTIL MORNING OF THE 6th January, 2017: Rain will be fairly widespread in Taninthayi Region, scattered in Shan and Mon States, isolated in Naypyitaw, Upper Sagaing, Bago, Yangon and Ayeyarwady Regions, Kachin, Kayah and Kayin States with likelihood of isolated heavyfalls in Taninthayi Region. Degree of certainty is (80%). Weather will be partly cloudy in the remaining Regions and States.
STATE OF THE SEA: Squalls with moderate to rough seas are likely at times Deltaic, Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon - Taninthayi Coast. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach (35) m.p.h. Seas will be moderate elsewhere in Myanmar waters.
OUTLOOK FOR SUBSEQUENT TWO DAYS: Continuation of rain in Taninthayi Region, Kayin and Mon States.
