SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS RECORDED FROM YESTERDAY MORNING 09:30 hrs M.S.T TO TODAY MORNING 09:30 hrs M.S.T: During the past (24) hours, rain or thundershowers have been widespread in Sagaing, Mandalay, Taninthayi Regions and (Northern and Southern) Shan, Kayin, Mon States, scattered in Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyarwady Regions and Kachin, Kayah States and isolated in Naypyitaw with regionally heavyfalls in Mandalay Region and isolated heavyfalls in Lower Sagaing Region. Weather has been partly cloudy in Eastern Shan, Chin, Rakhine States. Day temperatures were 5°C to 6°C above May average temperatures in Upper Sagaing, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyarwady Regions and Rakhine, Kayin States, 3°C to 4°C above May average temperatures in Naypyitaw, Lower Sagaing, Mandalay, Taninthayi Regions and (Southern and Eastern) Shan, Chin, Kayah, Mon States and 2°C above May average temperature in Northern Shan State and about May average temperature in Kachin State. The significant day temperatures were observed 43.4°C in Chauk, 42.9°C in Magway, 42.8 °C in Nyaung Oo, 42.6°C in Minbu, 42.0°C in Myingyan, 41.9°C in Myinmu, 41.8°C in Zaung Tu, 41.7°C in Aunglan and 41.5°C each in Sinphyugyun, Ann and Nyauglaybin on 20-5-2024. The noteworthy amount of rainfall recorded were 2.97 inches in Wundwin, 2.68 inches in Belin, 2.64 inches in Ye U, 2.28 inches in Labutta, 2.16 inches in Chaungsone, 2.05 inches in Paing Kyone, 1.97 inches each in Lashio and Tada U (Aviation-Met), 1.89 inches in Mawlamyine, 1.85 inches in Zeepingyi and 1.68 inches in Paung.
BAY INFERENCE: Weather is a few cloud to partly cloudy over the North Bay and Eastcentral Bay of Bengal and cloudy over the Andaman Sea and elsewhere over the Bay of Bengal.
FORECAST VALID UNTIL MORNING OF THE 22nd May 2024: Rain or thundershowers will be widespread in Mandalay, Taninthayi Regions and Southern Shan, Kayin, Mon States, fairly widespread in Naypyitaw, Sagaing, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyarwady Regions and (Eastern and Northern) Shan States, scattered in Kachin, Chin, Kayah States and isolated in Magway Region and Rakhine State with isolated heavyfalls in Naypyitaw, Mandalay, Ayeyarwady, Taninthayi Regions and Kayin, Mon States. Degree of certainty is 80%.
THE CONDITION OF CUMULONIMBUS CLOUD: The Cumulonimbus clouds are developing in Naypyitaw, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyarwady, Taninthayi Regions and Shan, Rakhine, Kayah, Kayin, Mon States. The area along the Cumulonimbus clouds movement, the weather phenomena such as strong winds accompanied with rain, thunder, lightning and hail may occur and therefore it is recommended to be aware in advance these phenomena.
STATE OF THE SEA: Squalls with moderate to rough seas are likely at times in Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach 30-35 mph. Sea will be moderate elsewhere in Myanmar waters. Wave height will be about 7-9 feet in Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts and about 5-7 feet in Deltaic, off and along Rakhine Coast.
OUTLOOK FOR SUBSEQUENT TWO DAYS: Likelihood of regionally and isolated heavyfalls in Bago, Yangon, Ayeyarwady, Taninthayi Regions and Rakhine, Kayin, Maon States.
