26-5-2024: According to the observations at (21:30) hrs M.S.T today, the Severe Cyclonic Storm “REMAL” over North Bay of Bengal has continued to move nearly Northwards and centered at about (180) Nautical miles West-Northwest of Maungdaw, (220) Nautical miles West-Northwest of Sittwe,(Myanmar), (65) Nautical miles Southwest of Khepupara, (70) Nautical miles South- Southwest of Mongla, (Bangladesh), (65) Nautical miles East-Southeast of Sagar Island, (95) Nautical miles East-Southeast of Digha and (65) Nautical miles South-Southeast of Canning (West Bangal, India). Monsoon is strong over the Andaman Sea and South Bay and strong to vigorous over the Eastcentral Bay. Weather is cloudy elsewhere over the Bay of Bengal.

Low Pressure Area Condition

  1. According to the observations at (15:30) hrs M.S.T today, the low pressure area over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea still persists. It is likely intensify into a Depression around (9.5.2023) and into a Cyclonic Storm over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Central Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea around (10.5.2023). The Cyclonic Storm is likely to move North-Northwestwards and reach to Eastcentral Bay of Bengal around (11.5.2023) and then recurve North- Northeastwards and move to Bangladesh-Myanmar Coasts.
  2. General caution

Squalls with rough seas are likely at times off and along Myanmar Coasts. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach (35-40) m.p.h from (9.5.2023) to (11.5.2023) and frequently squalls with rough to very rough seas will be experienced off and along Myanmar Coasts. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach (70-80) m.p.h.

  1. Rain or thundershowers will be widespread in Naypyitaw, Lower Sagaing, Magway, Bago, Yangon, AyeyarwadyRegions and (Southern and Eastern) Shan, Chin, Rakhine, Kayah, Kayin, Mon States with regionally and isolated heavy falls in some Regions and States and scattered to fairly widespread in Upper Sagaing, Mandalay, Taninthayi Regions and Kachin and Northern Shan from (11.5.2023)   to (15.5.2023).

 

Advisory

Under the influence of the Cyclonic Storm, people should be awared of strong wind, heavy rain, flash flood and landslide in the hilly areas and near small rivers and also domestic flight, trawlers, vessels and ships off and along Myanmar Coasts. Therefore, pepple should watch the forecasts of The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology and make the necessary preparations.
