Weather forecast for the Late Monsoon season in 2026

2026, late monsoon season determination

1.      Late monsoon period is a period of starting from 1st September, 2026 to the date of monsoon withdrawal from the whole country.

Monsoon retreat situation

2. The southwest monsoon is likely to withdraw from all parts of Myanmar as follows:

            (a) Northern Myanmar areas between September 14th and 19th,

(b) Central Myanmar areas between September 20th and 25th,

(c) Deltaic areas between September 26 and October 1,

(d) Southern Myanmar areas from October 2 to 7.

Bay of Bengal situation

3.         Four Low Pressure Areas may form over the Bay of Bengal and three may further intensify into a depression. Monsoon will be moderate over the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal. Weather will be partly cloudy to cloudy over the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal.

Rainy conditions

4.         Rainfall conditions are expected to be above normal in Naypyitaw, Mandalay Region and Kayah, (Southern and Eastern) Shan States, below normal in Taninthayi Region and about normal in Yangon, Bago, Magway, Sagaing, Ayeyarwady Regions and Kchin, Kayin, Chin, Mon, Rakhine, Northern Shan States.
