22-12-2024:According to the observations at (05:30) hrs M.S.T today, the depression over Westcentral Bay of Bengal almost stataionary and weaken into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area. It is likely forecast to weaken gradually over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal. Weather is partly cloudy to cloudy over the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal.

Depression Condition

            According to the observations at (21:30) hrs MST today, the Well Marked Low Pressure Area over Northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Southeast Bangladesh coast has moved West-Northwestwards and further intensified into a Depression. It is centered at about 115 Nautical miles Northwest of Maungdaw, 160 Nautical miles Northwest  of  Sittwe(Myanmar), 30 Nautical miles Southeast of Patuakhali(Bangladesh), 120 Nautical miles East of Canning and 140 Nautical miles East-Southeast of Kolkata(India). 

Since it is not moving towards Myanmar coasts, the present stage of the Depression is coded as yellow stage.

Position of Depression, center pressure and wind

The Depression is located at Latitude 22.0 degree North and Longitude 90.8 degree East, centre pressure of Depression is 998 hPa and maximum wind speed near the center is 30-35 miles per hour at (21:30) hrs MST today.

During next (36) hrs forecast

The Depression is likely to continue to move West-Northwestwards and cross Bangladesh coast near Patuakhali during next 8 hours and Coastal Bangladesh and West Bengal(India) during next 48 hours.

General caution

Due to the Depression, rain or thundershowers will be widespread in Naypyitaw, Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway Regions and Chin, Rakhine States with likelihood of regionally and isolated heavyfalls and fairly widespread to widespread in Bago, Yangon and Ayeyarwady Regions with heavy rainfalls and strong wind during tonight upto 15-9-2024. Occassional squalls with rough seas will be experienced off and along Myanmar Coasts. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach 40-45 mph. Wave height will be about 9 - 11 feet off and along Myanmar Coasts.

Advisory

Under the influence of depression, people should be awared heavy rain with strong wind, flash flood and landslide in the hilly areas and near small rivers and also domestic flight, trawlers, vessels and ships off and along Myanmar Coasts.
