22-12-2024:According to the observations at (05:30) hrs M.S.T today, the depression over Westcentral Bay of Bengal almost stataionary and weaken into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area. It is likely forecast to weaken gradually over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal. Weather is partly cloudy to cloudy over the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal.

Depression Condition

According to the observations at (10:30) hrs M.S.T today, the Well Marked Low Pressure Area over Westcentral Bay and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal has further intensified into a Depression. It is centered at about 355 Nautical miles West-Southwest of Sittwe, 420 Nautical miles West  of  Thandwe (Myanmar), 165 Nautical miles East of Kalingapatnam(India), 145 Nautical miles East-Southeast of Gopalpur, 140 Nautical miles South-Southeast of Paradip and 220 Nautical miles South of Digha.

Since it is not moving towards Myanmar coasts, the present stage of the Depression is coded as yellow stage.

Position of Depression, center pressure and wind

The Depression is located at Latitude 18.0 degree North and Longitude 87.0 degree East, centre pressure of Depression is 998 hPa and maximum wind speed near the center is 30-35 miles per hour at (10:30) hrs MST today.

During next (72) hrs forecast

The Depression is likely to move nearly Northwestwards and may reach North Odisha-West Bengal coasts and may further intensify into a deep depression during next 24 hours. Thereafter, it is likely to move West-Northwestwards and may across North Odisha-Gangetic West Bengal, India.

General caution

Under the influence of depression, rain or thundershowers will be fairly widespread to widespread in Naypyitaw, Sagaing, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyarwady Regions and Chin, Rakhine States with likelihood of regionally and isolated heavyfalls in some Regions and States along with strong winds from today Noon to  12-9-2024. Occassional squalls with rough seas will be experienced off and along Myanmar Coasts. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach 40 mph. Wave height will be about 9 - 12 feet off and along Myanmar Coasts.

Advisory

Under the influence of depression, people should be awared heavy rain with strong wind, flash flood and landslide in the hilly areas and near small rivers and also domestic flight, trawlers, vessels and ships off and along Myanmar Coasts.
