23-5-2024: According to the observations at (17:30) hrs M.S.T today, the Well Marked Low Pressure Area over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Bay of Bengal still persists. It is likely to move northeastwards and intensify into a Depression over Central Bay of Bengal around 24-5-2024 morning. Thereafter, it may continue to move northeastwards and intensify into a Cyclonic Storm over the Eastcentral Bay of Bengal around 25-5-2024 morning, it would move nearly northwards and intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm. It may reach near Bangladesh and adjoining west Bengal coasts, India by 26-5-2024 evening. Monsoon is strong to vigorous over the Andaman Sea and Southeast Bay of Bengal. Weather is partly cloudy over the North Bay and cloudy elsewhere over the Bay of Bengal.

Depression

According to the observations at (05:30)hrs M.S.T today, the Depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal moved north-­northwestwards . It is centered at about (700) Nautical miles Southwest of Coco-Island, (800) Nautical miles Southwest of Hainggyigyun (Myanmar), (105) Nautical miles East of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), (230) Nautical miles East-Southeast of Nagapattinam, (280)Nautical miles South-Southeast of Puducherry and (320)Nautical miles South-Southeast of Chennai (India).

It is not moving towards Myanmar coasts, the present stage of the depression is coded yellow stage.

Position of depression, center pressure and wind

            Depression is located at Latitude (8.5) degree North and Longitude (83.0) degree East, centre pressure of depression is (1004) hPa and maximum wind speed near the center is (32) miles per hour at (05:30)hrs M.S.T today.

During next (48) hrs Forecast

The depression is contuinous to move Northwestwards and may further intensify into a Deep Depression during next (9) hours. It is likely to reach coast of Sri Lanka towards north Tamil Nadu Coast during next (48) hours.
