Cyclonic Storm

According to the observations at (12:30)hrs M.S.T today, the Cyclonic Storm “SITRANG” over Eastcentral Bay and adjoining of Westcentral Bay and Northwest Bay of Bengal has moved North-Northeastwards now lies over Northwest Bay and adjoining Central Bay of Bengal and centered at about (305) Nautical miles West of Thandwe, (240) Nautical miles West-Southwest of Sittwe, (235) Nautical miles West-Southwest of Maungdaw(Myanmar), (195) Nautical miles South-Southeast of Sagar Island (India) and (260) Nautical miles South-Southwest of Barisal (Bangladesh).

It is not moving towards Myanmar Coasts, the present stage of the Cyclonic Storm “SITRANG” is coded yellow stage.

Position of Cyclonic Storm “SITRANG”, center pressure and wind

            The Cyclonic Storm “SITRANG” is located at Latitude (18.6) degree North and Longitude (89.0) degree East, centre pressure of Cyclonic Storm “SITRANG”is (995) hPa and maximum wind speed near the center is (50-55) miles per hour at (12:30)hrs MST today.

During next (12) hrs forecast

 It is likely comtinue to move North-Northeastwards and intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm “SITRANG” during next (12) hours and will cross Bangladesh Coasts between Tincona Island and Sandwip Island around (25.10.2022).

General caution

Due to Cyclonic Storm “SITRANG”, likelihood of fairly widespread to widespread rain or thundershowers in Naypyitaw, Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Yangon, Ayeyarwady Regions and Kachin, Chin, Rakhine States with regionally and isolated heavyfalls in some Regions and States from today morning  to (26.10.2022).

Frequently squall with rough to very rough seas will be experienced in off and along Rakhine Coasts. Surface wind speed in squall may reach (60-65) mph. Squall with rough seas are likely at times in Gulf of Deltaic, Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts. Surface wind speed in squall may reach (35-40) mph. Wave height will be about (14-18) feet in off and along Rakhine Coast and (9-11) feet in Gulf of Deltaic, Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts.

Rakhine Coast, Myanmar which is located on the right-hand side of the Cyclonic Storm’s path, maximum wind speed may reach (35-45) mph in Chin, Rakhine States and maximum wind speed may reach (20-25) mph in Lower Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway Regions.

Advisory

Under the influence of the Cyclonic Storm “SITRANG”, people should be awared of strong wind, heavy rain, flash flood and landslide in the hilly areas and near small rivers and also domestic flight, trawlers, vessels and ships off and along Myanmar Coasts.
