SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS RECORDED FROM YESTERDAY MORNING 09:30 hrs M.S.T TO TODAY MORNING 09:30 hrs M.S.T: During the past (24) hours, rain or thundershowers have been widespread in Taninthayi Region and Southern Shan State and isolated in Naypyitaw, Upper Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Ayeyarwady Regions and Kayah, Kayin, Mon States. Weather has been partly cloudy in the remaining Regions and States. Day temperatures were 7°C above May average temperature in Kachin State, 5°C to 6°C above May average temperatures in Naypyitaw, Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago Regions and Eastern Shan, Kayin, Mon States, 3°C to 4°C above May average temperatures in Yangon, Ayeyarwady, Taninthayi Regions and (Northern and Southern)Shan, Rakhine States and 2°C above May average temperatures in Chin, Kayah States. The significant day temperatures were observed 45.8°C in Chauk, 44.6°C in Magway, 44.5°C in Taungdwingyi, 44.3°C each in Tada U (Aviation-Met), Minbu and Aunglan, 44.1°C in Myingyan and 44.0°C each in Shwebo, Myinmu and Nyaung Oo on 15-5-2024. The noteworthy amount of rainfall recorded were 1.18 inches in Taunggyi, 0.95 inch in Shwekyin, 0.51 inch in Namsam(Southern Shan), 0.32 inch in Pinlaung, 0.27 inch in Htilin, 0.24 inch in Loilin, 0.16 inch each in Dawei and Kawthaung and 0.12 inch in Laiway.

BAY INFERENCE: Weather is cloudy over the South Andaman Sea, Southwest and Westcentral Bay and a few cloud to partly cloudy over the North Andaman Sea and elsewhere over the Bay of Bengal.

FORECAST VALID UNTIL MORNING OF THE 17th May 2024: Rain or thundershowers will be widespread in Taninthayi Region and scattered in (Southern and Eastern)Shan, Kayah, Kayin, Mon States and isolated in Naypyitaw, Upper Sagaing, Mandalay, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyarwady Regions and Kachin, Northern Shan, Chin States. Degree of certainty is 80%. Weather will be partly cloudy in the remaining Regions and States.

THE CONDITION OFCUMULONIMBUS CLOUD: The Cumulonimbus clouds are developing in Naypyitaw, Mandalay, Bago, Taninthayi Regions and Kachin, Shan, Kayin, Mon States. The area along the Cumulonimbus clouds movement, the weather phenomena such as strong winds accompanied with rain, thunder, lightning and hail may occur and therefore it is recommended to be aware in advance these phenomena.

STATE OF THE SEA: Sea will be slight to moderate in Myanmar waters. Wave height will be about 4-7 feet in off and along Myanmar Coasts.

OUTLOOK FOR SUBSEQUENT TWO DAYS: Likelihood of scattered rain or thundershowers in Mandalay, Taninthay Regions and Kachin, Shan, Chin, Kayin, Mon States.

FORECAST FOR NAYPYITAW AND NEIGHBOURING AREA FOR 17th May 2024:             Likelihood of isolated rain or thundershowers. Degree of certainty is 60%.
