SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS RECORDED AT 09:30 hrs M.S.T: During the past (24) hours, Southwest monsoon has been withdrawn from the Northern Myanmar areas. Rain or thundershowers have been isolated in Lower Sagaing and Magway Regions, scattered in Naypyitaw, Upper Sagaing, Mandalay, Bago and Yangon Regions, Kachin, Chin and Rakhine States, fairly widespread in Ayeyarwady and Kayah States and widespread in the remaining Regions and States with regionally heavy falls in Mandalay Region and Kayin State. The noteworthy amount of rainfall recorded were (5.00) inches in Paingkyone, (3.94) inches in Hlaingbwe, (2.91) inches in Myeik, (2.83) inches in Kyeikkhame, (2.80) inches in Thaton, (2.76) inches in Hlaingtat, (2.47) inches in Hpa-an, (2.36) inches each in Kyaukpyu and Kawthaung and (2.28) inches in Belin.

BAY INFERENCE: Monsoon is strong over the Andaman Sea and South Bay and weak elsewhere over the Bay of Bengal.

SPECIAL FEATURES: According to the observations at (12:30) hrs MST today, the tropical storm “NOUL” over the South China Sea has crossed Vietnam coast near Danang this morning and now lies over Laos. It is forecast continues to move West wards and reach to Thailand as a tropical depression today evening and then reach as a wave to the Southeast Myanmar areas on (19.9.2020).

FORECAST VALID UNTIL MORNING OF THE 19th September, 2020: Rain or thundershowers will be scattered in Sagaing, Mandalay and Magway Regions, Kachin, Northern Shan and Chin States, fairly widespread in Naypyitaw, Southern Shan and Kayah States and widespread in the remaining Regions and States with likelihood of regionally heavy falls in Taninthayi Region, Kayin and Mon States and isolated heavy falls in Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Yangon and Ayeyarwady Regions and Kayah State. Degree of certainty is (100%).

STATE OF THE SEA: Squalls with rough seas are likely at times Deltaic, Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach (35)m.p.h. Sea will be moderate elsewhere in Myanmar Waters. Wave height will be about (8 – 11) feet Deltaic, Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts and about (5 - 8) feet off and along Rakhine Coasts.

OUTLOOK FOR SUBSEQUENT TWO DAYS: Likelihood of increase of rain in Naypyitaw, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyarwady and Taninthayi Regions, Southern Shan, Rakhine, Kayah, Kayin and Mon States.

FORECAST FOR NAYPYITAW AND NEIGHBOURING AREA FOR 19th September, 2020:  Isolated rain or thundershowers. Degree of certainty is (100%).

FORECAST FOR MANDALAY AND NEIGHBOURING AREA FOR 19th September, 2020: Isolated rain or thundershowers. Degree of certainty is (80%).

WEATHER OUTLOOK FOR WEEKEND: Rain or thundershowers will be fairly widespread in Naypyitaw, widespread in Yangon Region and scattered in Mandalay Region.
