SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS RECORDED AT 09:30 hrs M.S.T: During the past (24)hours, weather has been partly cloudy in Lower Sagaing Region. Rain or thundershowers has been isolated in Northern Shan State, scattered in Magway Region, Kachin, Rakhine and Kayin States, fairly widespread in Mandalay and Bago Regions, Eastern Shan and Chin States and widespread in the remaining Regions and States with regionally heavyfalls in Naypyitaw. Day temperatures were (2°C) above May average temperatures in (Southern and Eastern)Shan and Mon States and (3°C) below May average temperature in Upper Sagaing Region and about May average temperature in the remaining Regions and States. The significant day temperatures were (38°C) each in Shwebo, Chauk and Bawlakhae and (37°C) each in Myinmu and Lunkyaw. The noteworthy amount of rainfall recorded were (2.83)inches in Central Yangon, (1.77)inches each in Naypyitaw(Dekkinathiri and Pobbathiri), (1.69)inches in Naypyitaw (Otarathiri), (1.57)inches in Yangon(Kaba-Aye), (1.54)inches each Naypyitaw(Ela Airport) and Pyinmana(Walgyi), (1.50)inches in Hkamti and (1.42)inches in Yangon(Mingaladon).

BAY INFERENCE: Monsoon is weak over the Andaman Sea and Southeast Bay and weather is a few cloud to partly cloudy elsewhere over the Bay of Bengal.

FORECAST VALID UNTIL MORNING OF THE 23rd May, 2020: Rain or thundershowers will be fairly widespread in Upper Sagaing and Taninthayi Regions, Kachin, Chin and Mon States, scattered in Naypyitaw, Mandalay, Bago, Yangon and Ayeyarwady Regions, Southern Shan, Rakhine, Kayah and Kayin States and isolated in the remaining Regions and States. Degree of certainty is (80%).

STATE OF THE SEA: Squalls with moderate to rough seas are likely at times Deltaic, off and along Rakhine Coasts. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach (30-35)m.p.h. Sea will be moderate elsewhere in Myanmar waters. Wave height will be about (7 -10)feet in Deltaic, off and along Rakhine Coasts and (5-7)feet in Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi Coasts.

OUTLOOK FOR SUBSEQUENT TWO DAYS: Weak monsoon over the Andaman Sea and Southeast Bay Bengal.

FORECAST FOR NAYPYITAW AND NEIGHBOURING AREA FOR 23rd May, 2020:    Isolated rain or thundershowers. Degree of certainty is (80%).

WEATHER OUTLOOK FOR WEEKEND: Rain or thundershowers will be isolated in Naypyitaw and Yangon Region and likelihood of isolated rain or thundershowers in Mandalay Region.
