“The 27th UNESCO-IHP Regional Steering Committee Asia-Pacific Meeting”
The opening ceremony of the UNESCO-IHP Regional Steering Committee Asia-Pacific meeting held its Twenty-seventh Meeting (27th IHP) at (09:00) am on 30th October 2019 at Hotel Royal ACE, Nay Pyi Taw. The meeting was organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural (UNESCO) and hosted by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Myanmar.
The Deputy Minister for Ministry of Transport and Communications, H.E. U Kyaw Myo and Prof. Dr. IGNASIUS SUTAPA, Chairperson of IHP Regional Steering Committee delivered the Welcome Remarks. After that, Dr. Yasuto Tachikawa, Secretary of IHP Regional Steering Committee and Dr. Hans Dencker Thulstrup, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural (UNESCO) delivered the Opening Remarks.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Heads of Departments, Experts from the UNESCO-IHP, Experts from the International Organization, Japan International Cooperation Agency, and Delegates from UNESCO with residence in Myanmar and CTI Myanmar Co., Ltd. A total of about 70 including delegates and participants were attended.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss water-related information of rivers, challenges and requirements, and scientific plans to minimize the impact of hydrological disasters, to provide water-related capacity building, and to exchange experience and knowledge based on the information presented by different countries during the Regional Steering Committee meeting.
